Hello, I am reviewing an eye serum today that I finished long back. Also, I am very inconsistent with blogging these days – blame the lockdown. Work from home + no maid 😣.
About The Ordinary Caffeine Solution
This light-textured formula contains an extremely high 5% concentration of caffeine, supplemented with highly-purified Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside (EGCG) from green tea leaves. Independent studies have shown that topical use of each of caffeine and EGCG can help reduce looks of puffiness and of dark circles in the eye contour. Additional studies have shown that caffeine can also reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Reduces Appearance of Eye Contour Pigmentation and of Puffiness
Packaging of The Ordinary Caffeine Solution
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution comes in an amber coloured glass bottle with a dropper on top. It is further packed in a cardboard box just like all Deciem products. All the instructions and full ingredient list are given on the box.
Consistency and Smell of The Ordinary Caffeine Solution
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution has very thin watery consistency with pale yellow-brownish hue. It has very faint smell which doesn’t linger for more time. I am glad that The Odinary doesn’t add artificial fragrance to their products. I am really sorry, I have completely finished it and I forgot to capture dropper shot when it was not empty.
How to Use?
Massage a small amount onto the eye contour AM and PM. If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised. Refer to our in-depth guide to patch testing. Keep out of reach of children.
Caffeine is the star ingredient of this serum. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor which means that it narrows the blood vessels. It shrinks the appearance of puffiness or inflammation. Studies also state that caffeine dissolves fat and reduces cellulite. Secondly, caffeine is highly rich in antioxidants and it helps with collagen production. No wonder why it is widely used in eye care products!
Another star ingredient Epigallocatechin Gallate as known as EGCG is a plant based compound which is majorly found in green tea. It is believed to be responsible for very high antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties. EGCG protects the cells from damage.
Soybean Seed Extract
Soybean is great in combating free radicals and improving the appearance of skin. It also protects skin from UVB damage.
Oxidized Glutathione is a great ingredient to brighten up the skin. It is a controversial ingredient due to the term “whitening” but some researches state that it is a great to brighten the skin tone.
Melanin is an anti-aging agent and protects the skin from sun damage.
Lactic acid is a type of Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) which works to exfoliate the top layer of skin (epidermis). It helps in reducing dark sports and brightening the skin. Lactic acid is very mild and excellent for sensitive skin types.
Glycerine and Hyalonic Acid
Glycerine and Hyalonic Acid both are humectants which means they hold the moisture and content and make skin plumped up.

Many insta resellers also sell it but to be honest I have seen them swatching and opening the products _ I prefer buying it directly from cult beauty – they have really good customer service. Shelf life is 12 months from opening.
My Experience with The Ordinary Caffeine Solution
I started using The Ordinary Caffeine Solution serum in my AM and PM routines. I used almost 1 drop for both eyes and that much amount is sufficient. This is a watery thin liquid and it absorbs very quickly. I have very dry under eye area and I have to use very thick eye creams especially for night routine. I noticed that this solution dried my area badly. I got highly disappointed as I did not expect any eye care product to dry out my skin. I had to use a rich eye cream on top of this to nourish the dry area.
I had no irritation except on the days when my skin was super dry or on the days when I got my brows done which is weird and probably the first eye care product to behave this way. Over a period of time, I did notice my dark circles getting lighter. I don’t have puffy eyes – I do wake up with swollen face like any other person if I haven’t slept enough though! Also, 30ml product is such a HUGE quantity and it will last forever. It was really difficult for me to get over. I sometimes used on entire face to finish this up quickly making sure that I use it up before it expires.
Does it Work?
Yes it does. I do not have puffy eyes but yes I do suffer from dark circles due to various reasons. I did notice visibly brighter under eye area with continuous usage. Although, I did make some lifestyle changes too.
If you have puffy, dark under eye area – go for this one. It is a really good treatment but keep in mind that it is not at all nourishing so use this underneath your eye cream. It is a really great treatment to treat puffiness and dark circles along with lifestyle changes.
